GCDS Day… ¿?

Ok, so I should better start blogging about GCDS, or the travel committee will not sponsor me next year, oops!

Well, so the GCDS started a few days ago. It’s been pretty interesting so far. The first two days were busy at the info desk; many more people than we expected showed up the first day, even though there were no talks at all -just the registration.

I went to Richard Stallman’s keynote; it was fascinating (both in a good and in a bad way). I also learned that Banshee will do photos; Aaron, the speaker, said that this will allow F-Spot to become more advanced and professional (“think Adobe Lightroom”, he said). Ehem, I personally doubt it.

Yesterday we went to a party sponsored by Igalia. The place was amazing – there were BIG beds were people could sit (or lay) down and chill out!

Vincent didn’t bring me the OpenSuse t-shirt he promised last year… Ok, the fact that I didn’t send him an e-mail to remind him about it didn’t help.

Tres dies per al Gran Canaria Desktop Summit

Del 3 a l’11 de juliol, els desenvolupadors i els usuaris dels escriptoris GNOME i KDE ens trobarem a Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: enguany s’ha fusionat la GUADEC i l’Akademy en un esdeveniment anomenat Gran Canaria Desktop Summit.

Com en aquests darrers anys, gràcies a l’Sponsorship Travel Committee, d’aquí a un parell de dies agafo l’avió cap a Las Palmas de Gran Canaria! Els agraeixo molt que em donin l’oportunitat de participar en aquestes conferències, i d’ajudar-hi. Si veniu a la GCDS segurament em trobareu darrere el taulell de l’Info Desk, com cada any 😉

El meu primer commit :) – My first commit :)

Després de patir una mica perquè no se m’acceptava la clau pública al servidor svn del GNOME, gràcies a l’ajuda inestimable d’en Diego (que m’ha actualitzat la clau que he hagut de crear) i d’en Gil, que m’ha fet un curset intensiu d’svn, he fet el meu primer commit (és a dir, he pujat una traducció al servidor svn del GNOME) 🙂

És a dir, que si peta alguna cosa potser és culpa meva 😛

After a bit of suffering -my public key wasn’t being accepted by GNOME’s svn server, or so I thought-, thanks to Diego (who quickly updated the new public key I had to create) and to Gil, who taught me svn, I commited a translation for the first time 🙂

So… if something crashes, it may be my fault! 😛

10 anys de GNOME – 10 years of GNOME

Per molts anys!

Ahir va fer 10 anys que el GNOME va treure la poteta al món. El dia abans de l’enterrament de Lluís Maria Xirinacs (gran lluitador per la pau i les llibertats); el dia abans del terratrèmol de 7,5 graus al Perú. Però com que ja sabeu que jo vaig tard a tot arreu, doncs ho escric avui 😛

Jo tot just m’hi vaig començar a implicar l’any passat, després d’assistir a la GUADEC. “Només” tradueixo i corregeixo, i hi dedico molt menys temps del que m’agradaria, però és la meva manera de col·laborar a construir un escriptori lliure, i en català 🙂 I espero implicar-m’hi molt més, mica en mica!

Hauria fet un pastís, però se m’ha espatllat el forn 🙁 En Marco Barisione sí que n’ha fet un, i la fotografia ja volta arreu de la GNOMEsfera. El voleu veure? És aquí 🙂 Jo faria una queixalada a la pantalla!

Happy birthday!

Yesterday was GNOME‘s 10th birthday. The day before Lluís Maria Xirinacs‘s funeral (this ex-priest, politician and writer was an advocator for the independence of the Catalan Countries, and always defended peace and freedom); the day before a 7,5 degrees earthquake stroke sourthern Peru. But, as you know, I’m always late, so I write about it today 😛

I just became involved in the project last year, after going to GUADEC. I “only” translate and proofread -and not as much as I would like-, but that’s my way of contributing to the creation of a free desktop (in Catalan) 🙂 And I hope to be able to get more involved in the future!

I would have likes to bake a cake in honour of ‘the foot’, but my oven broke down a few weeks ago 🙁 Marco Barisione did bake one; its photo is around the GNOMEsphere. In case you haven’t seen it yet, it’s here 🙂 I’d lick the screen!!! ^^

Pidgin 2.0.2

PidginAvui he instal·lat el Pidgin 2.0.2 (abans, Gaim). Fins fa molt poc encara utilitzava la versió 1.x, però fa poc vaig trobar un .deb que em va permetre instal·lar la versió 2.0.1 d’aquest magnífic client de missatgeria instantània sense haver de compilar-lo.

A la GUADEC vaig descobrir, entre moltes millores, que el Pidgin permet fer servir el Bonjour, un protocol que permet descobrir serveis a la xarxa local (i que afegeix automàticament a la llista d’amics els usuaris de la xarxa que estiguin executant el Bonjour). Oi que mola? ^^

Si voleu instal·lar la darrera versió del Pidgin en una distribució Debian (o que hi estigui basada, com ara Ubuntu), descarregueu els fitxers següents i executeu-los en el mateix ordre:
